Building A Better Classroom
If all students learned the same way, designing a systematic approach to teaching would be easy. But not everyone learns the same way, and not everyone teaches the same way. Being able to provide stellar education while leveraging individual differences in the classroom is not only possible, it’s real.
By setting the stage for a collaborative learning environment, one which focuses on best utilizing the strengths that each student possesses to enhance overall learning for the group, educators can create classes that thrive on participation, engage students at a higher level and generate more comprehensive subject matter understanding. How does it work? By adapting a “coach approach” to the classroom, educators at all levels view the students as co-creators in their learning. This approach does not rely on a talking head spitting out page after page of lecture, but recasts the teacher as a partner in education and through active listening and powerful questioning, gets students to realize they have the ability to learn in the manner best suited for them.
For administrators, using the “coach approach” provides a way to recognize and appreciate the strengths and value contributions of each team member, no matter their experience or seniority level.
